December 1st

Ocala Holiday Premiere | The famous HITS Ocala Winter Circuit kicks off on December 1st with the Ocala Holiday Premiere! Running through the 3rd, the Premiere is the beginning of over three months of high-stakes, professional-level hunter/jumper competition in the heart of horse country. Come out to Post Time Farm for an equestrian event not to be missed!

First Friday Art Walk | Every year, the First Friday Art Walk occurs from 6 PM-9 PM on the first Friday of every month from September until May. Located within Ocala’s historic downtown, event festivities include over 40 artist’s displays, acoustic entertainment, free family art activities, and extended shopping hours.

Ice Skating at Tuscawilla Park | The City of Ocala’s ice skating rink will be open the public all month long at Tuscawilla Park until the 31st. It will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 PM to 9 PM, Fridays from 5 PM to 10 PM, Saturdays noon ‘til 10 PM, and Sundays 1 PM ‘til 6 PM. Admission is $5 per person for a 30-minute session.

The rink is also available to rent for events on Mondays and Wednesdays. There are also planned themed days on select Fridays, including:

  • 8th – Paradise on Ice Hawaiian Night
  • 15th – Screening of Elf
  • 22nd – Superheroes
  • 29th – Disco

December 2nd

Tack Shack’s Horsey Yard Sale | The Tack Shack of Ocala’s famous annual yard sale will take place December 2nd and 3rd, where you can browse scores of vendors, as well as Tack Shack’s phenomenal sales. Vendors and the store will be open 8 AM – 6 PM on Saturday, and 9 AM – 4 PM on Sunday. The local 4-H will be onsite offering snacks and drinks all weekend.

Shakespeare’s Midwinter Night’s Dream | At 1 PM and 4:30 PM, the Insomniac Theatre Company will be putting on a specially adapted performance of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream in Tuscawilla Park. The event is free, and limited bleacher seating is available. Special education materials about Shakespeare will be on and for children and teens.

December 3rd

Appleton Presents: Ancient Wisdom and the Golden Ratio | Scott Olsen, Ph.D. will be offering this talk in conjunction with the exhibition “Mysteries of the Amazon: Visionary Artwork of Pablo Amaringo and His Students.” The unique art exhibit offers 95 paintings by Amaringo and his students deeply inspired by Mestizo shamanism. Events are free for Appleton members, pay-what-you-wish for nonmembers.

Kirby Family Farm Christmas Express | Take an old-fashioned locomotive journey through beautiful Kirby Farm full of Christmas lights and Christmas spirit! Guests can also enjoy a complete holiday experience, including rides, live entertainment, food, and a visit from Santa. Proceeds benefit the educational programs at Kirby Farm for special-needs children.

December 5th

Santa on the Square | On Tuesdays and Thursdays through the 21st, Santa will be visiting downtown Ocala! The event is complimentary to the public and will include music, snacks, hay rides, and photo ops. Santa on the Square will be open from 6 PM to 8 PM.

December 8th

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Live at the Reilly Arts Center | Insomniac Theatre will be bringing their live shadowcast of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to Ocala at 7:30 PM. Tickets start at $10 per person, and can be purchased through the Reilly Arts Center Box Office.

December 9th

Light Up Lake Weir Boat Parade | From 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Lake Weir will be hosting a Christmas-light-studded boat parade, with brilliantly lit boats and a dock lighting contest. Gator Joe’s will be full of holiday spirit too with thousands of lights and decorations—they’re also the best seat in the house for the parade, with a gorgeous view of the lake!

Ocala Christmas Parade | A tradition 60 years in the making, Ocala’s annual Christmas parade will feature festive floats and entertainment all along the parade route on Silver Springs Blvd. The parade beings at 5:30. Don’t miss it!

Marion Ballet Theatre Presents: The Nutcracker | Come out to Ocala Civic Theatre for a dearly-beloved Christmas tradition! This year will be the 37th annual season of The Nutcracker at the Ocala Civic Theatre, and is sure to be the most magical yet. For more information on showtimes and tickets, click here.

December 13th

HITS Holiday Classic | The Ocala Circuit continues at HITS Post Time Farm with the HITS Holiday Classic, the last show before the competition begins to heat up in January with the January Classic I. Come out to enjoy some world-class hunter-jumper competition!

Winter Wonderland Youth Camp | A winter break mini-camp full of arts and crafts, games, field trips, and more will be offered at E.D. Croskey Recreation Center for children ages 5-12 December 20th-22nd. Registration is open through the 11th and is $60 per child plus a $15 registration fee.
